is for serial devices. This is reporting as a HID device. It may show up as/dev/usb/hiddev1
or similar.

ok, thank you my friend...I try to use 'softwedge -c /dev/usb/hiddev1' and I get error message 'Can't open serial port: /dev/usb/hiddev1'. maybe do you know why?

to your question. You may also trymodprobe usbserial vendor=0x23d8 product=0x0285
, though it's doubtful that it will work.

@StephenHarris a USB device can have multiple interfaces -- I don't think that that card reader is only presenting a hid interface, especially since it also has a RS232 connector, according to the manual

There are multiple ways to do that, and it depends on the hardware which way is implemented; one way is to send a special HID event, which is why one may need the HID interface (though only once, to make it switch).
